READY Professional Development Course

16 Hours (two days)

Lessen the ability for crime and other unwanted behavior to occur

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED--pronounced 'sep-ted') is one of the greatest tools available for making our school, homes, public buildings, courts, housing projects, businesses, and communities safer.

CPTED is not one technique, but a series of common sense strategies that can be implemented to make any space immediately safer.

First developed in response to rising crime in our neighborhoods and changes in law enforcement in the 1970's, CPTED has rapidly expanded and is now being used by private corporations and businesses as well as government agencies on an international scale.

Those who attend this training will never look at crime or their environment the same way again.

Participants will learn to assess as well as implement best practice techniques to improve or reduce the following:

Implementing CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) in a public school, housing project, court house, business, community areas, and other public spaces

Using Ownership to Send a Clear Message

The proper installation, maintenance, and effectiveness of exterior and interior lighting.

Reducing the Opportunity, Ability, and Desire for Crime to Occur

The Three D's of CPTED (Design, Designation, Definition)

    Real World Applications of CPTED

Lowering the Risk of Danger by Lowering our Vulnerability to Violence

Increasing Surveillance, Access Control, and Territorial Reinforcement

Utilizing Mechanical and Human Security Techniques

The effects of Space, Lighting, and Color on Human Behavior

    Increasing Space and Distance

    Adopting a Proactive Mindset

Reshaping the Environment to Reduce Crime and Unwanted Behavior

    And much more.
